I have tried AMG, Brabus, various Mercedes tuners but apart from a 5.8 or 6.0 conversion for £10,000 (Yes Thar is about $15,000), or a super charger for the same amount there is nothing around. I was told that an ECU upgrade may damage the engine given its age but I even said I will sign a disclaimer and was still unlucky. I think you just have to be lucky and but the right car. Having said that, My car goes really well with an exhaust with no side silencers and twin 4 inch pipes, I saw off a Subaru Imprezza this morning, (in a straight line). I am now after a thicker roll bar to compliment the lowered suspension and 18inch wheels, (136/35 on 8inch wide and 165/30 on 10 inch wide). I have put out a general question on this subject to this forum and if anyone has tuning gear it will be in the states, no luck.
Goos luck to you and if you find anything let me know please. Regards, Chris.
I think regular copper Bosch plugs work as well or better than platinum... The platinums may have a longer life but I never consider replacing plugs to be much of a hassle or expense so I like the larger electrodes of the regular ones.
I've had my pre-cats hollowed out, side silencers removed and fitted with straight tube-shaped mufflers. I think it gets better cruising performance but a little more sluggish off the line (I think backpressure helps off-the-line perf).
Dropped a bottle of Water Wetter in the cooling system as a preventative maintenance thing...
if you're not running an aftermarket coil/ignition system, I'd say stock wires are more than adequate.
I also installed a K&N drop-in filter. No change in performance - just more economical in the long run.

oil: I stick with Castrol GTX 20W-50.
I installed Dr.Jacobs Omni magnum ignition and wires,
1st gear start module from Bergwerks, Remus exhaust, and Dual intake/K&N Filter. Waiting for Foam airfilter form FXTeknology.
The best investment was ignition, complete fuel burn, and higher gas millage, and more power.
I think PerfProducts still sells these units.
Hope this helps.

we once had a 560 sec (euro vers. ofcourse, in belgium[:D]), AMG 6.1 V8, 416 horsepower, very nice red metalic, Black leather AMG interior, AMG body kit all around, 18" AMG Rims...
went like hell!
But ofcourse my dad had to sell it in his bussiness.
very seldom to find, but if you can find one...
boy you are lucky.
you're right, copper is better than platinum for performance. platinum has a electrical conductivity rating of 14.43, whereas copper is 97.61. silver is the best material at a rating of 100 but because of oxidization there are very few silver plugs available. platinum has the advantage of less wear, therefore it maintains the proper gap longer. i chose the +4 because of the 4 electrodes.
