armored 560SEL

I am currently stationed in Baghdad as a member of the Army Reserve. When we first arrived in April, I happened to see a partially looted 560SEL sitting in the driveway of a looted house. While I was checking it out, the owner came outside. Turns out it is an armored version.

After a couple of return visits, I was able to convince him to part with it. In my "spare time" (when not being shot at), I've been fixing it up.

I own four other Benzes, but this is my first "armored car". Any links where I might find out some info on this vehicle (such as whether it's a factory-made or aftermarket conversion, etc.)?

Also, I've shipped two previous Euro-spec cars (1978 6.9 and a 1984 300TD-T) to the USA, so I know of the headaches potentially involved. However, it's been a number of years, so any info would be appreciated as well. Since my former importer retired (and died), I'm aslo looking for any recommended firms that might be interested in getting the car back to the USA. (Maybe I could smuggle myself as well!)

Sorry for the long post, but I don't have the best access to the 'net, so I have to make the most of it.

Regards,

Cool, take care and come back with your new toy and enjoy the heavy ride. When I was in Germany a while ago, the armored S600 was some ride, heavy as a tank. But the V12 provided enough power to get it going. But the gas bill must be pretty heavy too.

Take a look at this site

These folks are leaders in the armored vehicle field. They may be able to make some suggestions:

Skip the flash intro unless you are on a high speed line.

Yeah, but they don't armored any vehicle for an average Joe. You need doc to show that you are a VIP at risk, I guess.

Armoured Cars

Chances are this amoured W126 was done by Cloer International http://www.cloer-international.com or Asbeck amouring, http://www.asbeck.com . Like it was said in the post before this, you can find quite a few of the amroued cars at www.mobile.de Some are as much as 55,900 euros for a 560SEL, and up to 385,000 For a new S 600

This I must say is a very inspirational post, I went down to my local recruiter to get info about getting in the army, he seemed very interested at first, but when I asked him if there was any guarantee to find an armored looted benz...........kiddin
Stay safe and my suggestion is to stay near your armored car as much as you can! [:D]

armoured 560 SEL

Ahh, I great find! I have one myself, but the 500SEL (called the B-2) let me know if you have trouble with it, or getting it over
