Transmission!! Help Please

I have a 1984 Merc. 560 SEC, and the transmission went out. The cost that was given to repair, with unlimited miles, new torq. converter..2 year warranty and labor was $2800.00 (rebuilt tranny) This is Oakland, CA area...Does this sound about right?

Any help please! Thank you..
