My 91 420sel developed an odd habbit in the past 2-3 weeks. It used to start almost immediately in the morning, but now after I turn the key it would turn the engine, but wouldn't start it. If I turn the ignition off and turn it back on, the car would start immediatly.
What I did lately I've added a few bottles of injector cleaner and gas treatment.
Any suggestions would be appreciated
Every time you turn the igintion on, it primes the fuel pump and it sounds as if your fuel pressure is dropping when the car is stood.
To test this theory, when you come to start the car tomorrow, turn the ignition on but do not start the engine. Let the igintion stay on for about 2/3 seconds then turn it off and on again.
Let the ignition stay on for another 2/3 seconds before kicking in the starter motor.
If it starts, it is a fuel pressure problem.

Sounds like you have either a 1)bad primary fuel pump check valve, or 2)leaky fuel nozzle.
The system must maintain >40PSI in the system pressure side. If the check valve (in pump outlet CLOSEST to fuel tank) leaks, pressure falls and the car has extended cranking. On some occasions the damper assembly above the fuel pumps perforates. MB said that cranking up to 4 sec was normal but this is BULLSHIT. It should fire INSTANTLY upon cranking if things are ok. Mine with 226K does.
