Hi all !! 300se 206550km

ALSO!!!

weird clonking noise eminating what seems to me like from somewhere in the steering column cause it only occurs when i drive on rough surfaces any ideas bushings ? steering box tie rods mmm ..had new shocks fitted etc..

ANY ADVISE WHAT TO LOOK FOR ?????????????????????

Clunking noise

In order of likelihood, (but if you're high mileage, change them all. The
parts are cheap.)

Guide rod mount. You'll need 2 @ $41
front subframe mounts, 2 rubber mounts in each of 2 free-floating subframes
that hold the guide rod mount. About $14 each. Pix is roughly representative
of all 4 bushings. So under $150 parts cost, with shipping.

This is the path of almost all force when braking and much of the turning
force. They can be changed by a DIY'er, and should be, otherwise the parts
cost is NOTHING compared to the labor cost. You must get an alignment
afterwards, and you better have scrap or spare tires to drive to the dealer
to get the alignment after changing these bushings, the tires could be
scooting sideways. NO KIDDING, it'll ruin your good tires really quickly.

Front End Noise

I have the same situation on my 300SE. I have been assured that the noise is, as stated previously, eminating from the stering rods and that it is not a problem, unless the noise has become too irritating. I haven't had the time to deal with it, so I have let it be. So far I can still steer.
