Will a 1982 500SEL Engine fit a 1986 420SEL?? quick help

A year ago I dented my 1982 500SEL (gray Market) Benz, it was a low milelage (100,000) great running car...the rear quarter panel is bent pretty bad. I have the opertunity to pick up a pretty clean high mileage (180,000) 1986 420 with a bad motor. Will this be a clean swap (bolt in/clip in) (I hope). I'm buying it at action tomorrow so I need some quick thoughts. The way I see it, I already own a giant parts ben, so if the engine will be a clean fit, I'll be driving it for many many more years
Thanks in advance

I'm thinking of the same thing...

I came across an '87 420SEL with bad engine and trans for sale. I have a '83 Gray 500SE that only has 103K on it. I think it should work as the 500SEL and 560SELs were offered in 1986. Let me know how you come out as I am trying to do the same. Good luck and let me know how much you got it for at the auction.[8D]

I bought it

Bought the 86 420SEL, though it had 186,000 miles it is very clean & solid, looks like it spent it life in a garage. Had new Yokahama Z rated tires and a new battery. Don't know whats wrong with the motor, looks as if someone pulled the plug, for maybe a compression check? Looks like the only missing option is the electric rear seat (my 82 has this feature, think it will be easy to swap out).
Could have gotten it for $925, except I got in a small bidding war with a mercedes mechanic who also had a motor, got it for $1200.

The electric seat (rear) option in the US cars was only available for the 560SEL. However overseas all the SEL's have them and no other w126's do. For example I have seen numerous 280SEL's and 300SEL's had the rear electric seat but the 280SE 300SE's and even the 500SE's didn't have the rear electric seat option. Correct me if I am wrong>
