Someone HELP!!!!

I've got a BIG problem with my "baby". I'm not an expert, so and solutions would help. Well, my problem has to do with the transmission I think. The car has lost the ability to go in reverse. I thought that it could be the clutch is "caught". The car is definitly "hung-up on something" and I have no clue as what it could be. Please help me out if you can. I'll answer any questions if they come up. Thanks

BenzRider,

IF your situation is similar to mine, over the last several months you've seen progressively longer delays shifting into reverse, often accompanied by a rather harsh jerking when it finally does engage. If this is true, from what I've been told, one of your clutch packs is worn out and will need to be replaced. Basically this will probably end up requiring rebuilding of the transmission given the age and miles.

I gather that this is not an uncommon failure for our trannies with 150-200K on them. Mine is still working but the delay is somewhat longer than a few months ago. Right now I'm waiting until I have the $$ for the rebuild (~2K).

Careful on the rebuilts

I realize that lower mileage trannies are hard to find for these cars, but be careful with the rebuilts. Transmissions are like maps, once you take them apart, they never seem to go back together quite right.

Granted, it wasn't a Mercedes-Benz, but in a previous car, I had my transmission repaired twice, before finally replacing it with a used one. If I had just gone to the used on in the first place, I would have saved $$ and not had the car in the shop two additional times.
