The 1977-1980 model was rated at 103 mph tops. The 1987 model was rated at 119 mph for the 300 SDL, 103 for the 300 SD. You have certainly broken the record according to the factory specifications.

My 1983 300 SD Top Speed / RPM

I've had mine up to 71 MPH, i'm not sure what kilo's that would be, but my RPM at 71 MPH was around 3300, so I didn't push it any more. Please write back on your RPM's because I'd like to know if my RPM's are normal to be that high at 71 mph, and at 125 mph I bet your RPM's were pretty severe!

My 1981 300SD Top speed

The fastest I've gone in my 300SD is about 150km/h, which is about 94mph. I never pushed it anymore because I just got my licence and she's my first car, but the previous owner top at 165km/h, about 105mph. Also, the front wheels needs to be balanced, so at 95mph, the steering whobbles a bit to much for me and the tires aren't the best out there, plus she's old, but still running [:)]

is there a difference in the top speeds of 1981 300sds and like 1983 ones, because my speedometer goes up to 85 mph while i have seen some 300sd speedometers that go way beyond 85 mph. The fastest i have driven is 85 mph (probably a bit faster because the rpms were still increasing but the speedometer needle was as far as it would go so im guessing i have gone maybe 90 mph)

My 1981 300SD Top Speed

The speedo of my 1981 300SD goes up to 200km/h, 125mph. The funny thing is that my speedo is only in metric (km/h), and Canada changed to metic system in 1980 I think. Cars after 1980 have both metic and English sytem, but mine only has metric. Does it mean it was imported from Europe?

Top Speed On 300SD

Well, after the peek torque and hp at a certain rpm, the graph of torque and hp drops, so you don't get any more power, so I think since you're producing less and less power, your speed drops.

To JLT

You Should Have An RPM Gauge That goes to 60 (6000 RPM's.), its on the right side of cluster.

This thread shows why it is better to go with gas.

This thread shows why it is better to go with the gas engines. I can hit 120mph, with plenty of pedal left, in my 1991 560SEL.
