How many MPG do you get?

This is something I always wanted to know, for I never know when to fill up my tank on my 87 420SEL (I usually do it at 290-300miles)...please post the following information:

1) Year
2) Model
3) Average MPG (either from original specs or your own experience)
4) What the odometer reads when you fill up

Thanks!

I just took a trip from Atlantic City, NJ to Cleveland, OH two weeks ago in my 1990 420 SEL. It's 485 miles each way and I drove 7 hours straight both going and returning. Oil was changed before trip. I use Sunoco 93 octane premium. I never ran less than 74 MPH and at times ran for a few hours straight at 80-85, even cranking it up to 90-100 for short streches. My mileage came out to EXACTLY 20.7 MPG for the trip.

Check you mileage by doing the following:

fill up your car and set your trip odometer to zero.
drive for a given length of time and then fill it up again. take the # of miles you've driven and divide it by the # of gallons it took to refill your car. Use a calculator if you want accurate results.

Hope that helps you.

18 MPG

I get about 18MPG in my 86 560SEC, 120K basically stock car. That's freeway cruising at 75.

1991 560SEL

I get about 17 MPG on Sunoco 93. It is a combination of highway and city. The car is a 1991 560SEL with 150,000 miles.

LOL I noticed that last week. However, right now I'm focusing on these PSAT tests (I'm 16)...I have been promised a large amount of money if I do extremely well (top 2% of test takers). With that money, I will fix every tiny problem with the 420SEL, and I hope to buy a (gasp!) tastefully modified rice rocket (after all I am asian)...gotta love those manual transmissions.

Re: How many MPG do you get?

You guys seem to have it better,
I get about 9 miles to the gallon
But when I got my 1979 450 Sel 6.9 it was running about 5 MPG (hadn't been run in 6 years)
But for the 9 MPG you get a lot of power under your right foot.
Just costs a lot to use it. No Wonder so many oil barons owned 450 sel's in the 80's.....

I have a 420 SEL 1989 with 175K miles, I have never really noted the city consumption but on the freeway from Houston TX to Dallas (in one day) at about 90mph(+-10mph) I got about 18mpg. I also like manual transmission and had a honda CRX Si riced out that I used to drive regularly ( and I am an Asian also!). Now I have it sitting in TX and drive my benz in Alaska regularly.
