I bought my first Benz about 6 months ago.Its 15 years old and its streets ahead of any new car I've ever had.I'm just wondering what to do to it.For a start it burns a lot of oil on start up and also on the highway when I put the boot down, there's a little smoke.I would like to keep this car and invest money in its up-keep.I understand the oil problem could be rings etc and it might be exspensive, but I'm willing to spend the money on it.I was also wondering what I could to to upgrade the engine on a car that old ( ie AMG kit etc).If anybody has any suggestions I would appreciste them. Also if anybody could recommend a good Benz mechanic in the New York area.

My favorite subject....The amg engine kit would be very nice, but it wold be probably cheaper to get a new amg mercedes then to go that route.
Intake- goto a junkyard and get yourself an airpan for a 1991 560 sel (it is dual instead of single.) Goto the dealership and get yourself the scoop and airtubes as well. Swap airfilter for a better one. Bingo, more air.
Fan- Electric fan if you have the time and money.
first gear start, new differential, and other cool but very pricey stuff-- www.bergwerks.com
bi-turbo-- mosselman makes a bi-turbo or twin turbo for this car. you can get it from australia (don't remember the site) for about $2000 last I saw. Actually he has other stuff and he is going to email me so I can forward you his site later.
exhaust- hi flow cat, dump the resonators, bigh performance mufflers connected by H-pipe.
engine- you can get a euro spec (300hp) engine for $5000-6000?
spray- always wanted to see a benz with nitrous [:D]
supercharger- kleeman makes mercedes superchargers...pricey
shocks- blistens or koni (what most ppl like)
if you do all that (with turbo) i think that should be 400-500hp [:I] then, i suppose, you'd give me a ride. oh wait....more stuff i remembered:
renntech makes camshafts with or without modified cylinder heads good for 24-41 hp and 14-26 torque. $3500-$6000.
As i said, the amg engine would probably be more expensive than all this shit. Good luck
You've wet my appetite Sebastian.Sounds like exactly what I want to do after I get the oil...
You've wet my appetite Sebastian.Sounds like exactly what I want to do after I get the oil sorted out. This is my first Benz, I'm amazed at thier class and luxury.I feel like writing a letter to Toyota and Honda "Sorry, but I won't be buying any of your products again".
I'm not looking to turn this car into a "Fast and Furious" type car,I'd like to keep the class look the the Benz has but at the same time keep a few things hidden under the hood[8D].Thanks for the suggestions. If I do anything to it I'll keep you posted and if you have any other ideas please feel free to let me know.
I've been hearing a lot about the "redline" product series. Supposedly, they increase hp from using better chemicals or something for their oil (or maybe additive), tranny fluid, and possibly gas additives. I tried their "water wetter" product on our old bmw and it seemed to drop the temp a bit. These cars LOVE cold air....you can EASILY tell a huge performance difference between 60 degrees and 100 outside temp. Maybe that stuff might help.
Also, you can change the pulleys in the car and buy lightened and/or less friction ones. You can also slap on some belts that turn 1/3 less than a normal belt so less power goes to the power steering, a/c, and fan, and more goes to the wheels.
Upgrade to a better ignition system and wires...i heard jacobs omni is really good.
some deal about changing a resisitor and getting "seat of pants" difference...should work on the w126

Yes, it is fuel injected. The "E" in your car's badge stands for the german word "einspritz" (I think). Which means injection. I think the "S" means Sonder (?) or special and the "L" is for Lang, (long). You drive a "Special fuel injected long" Mercedes [:)] Of course now we now the "E" as the E-class, and the whole badging system has been messed up. [:(]
