gears

the 3rd. gear is for the car to run in 3rd. gear when driving, and on a kick down, you'll get it down to 2nd.

the 2nd. gear's to lock the car into 2nd. gear only, this is excelent for pasing other cars.

the B gear is your first gear. when switching over to the B gear, you'll get excelent take off acceleration. it's also used for braking and climping steeps.

1st. question:yes, you may start driving from B. when your aproching the speed limit...

1st. question:

yes, you may start driving from B. when your aproching the speed limit for 1st. gear, just pull the lever into 2. it'll then gear correctly into 2nd. gear, and so on for 3rd & 4th.

2nd. question:

yes, you may use the gears for decelerating. the 3 & 2nd. gear are quite usefull for this, but be carefull switching it over to the 1st. gear. one thing is that it's not all healthy for you auto.box when done often. another thing might be your speed when decelerating, it's often to high for the 1st. gear. but this you probably know, check out the markings on your ODO...

well, mine too. My 500 sec is an early euro model without the criuse control. but my us 420sel had one, don't quite remember but it wasnt hard to fint out.

you can't mess anything up, so just fiddle around with it for i while... there's probably someone else on the forum that can help you out more then i can.

Assuming that the cruise works the same way regardless of the language - To set speed:...

Assuming that the cruise works the same way regardless of the language -

To set speed: push lever up or down (clockwise or counter clockwise) and release.

To resume speed (after hitting the brakes): pull lever towards the wheel.

To Accelerate: push lever up (clockwise) and hold until you reach the speed you want. This is now the new set speed.

To coast or decelerate: push the lever down (counter clockwise) and hold until you reach the speed you want. This is now the new set speed.

To turn off: push the lever away from the wheel.

If this doesn't work, you may have a faulty system which I gather is rather common on W126's including my own.
