I replaced two of the three sets of gearshift linkage bushings in my 91 560SEC this morning
The first were the two sandwich style bushings that require some lube and the special tool to compress onto the rod linkage Part # 115 992 03 10 One completely missing, one in shards.
The others were the two small "rings" that fit onto the large pin that holds the spring loaded U shaped assembly, deep in the gearshift box Part # 115 267 09 50 Both yellowed, but intact/whole.
However, when I removed the above pin, pulled off the U shaped assembly, and then slid out the larger 3/4" diameter rod (w/ the metal arm that mates w/ the linkage under the car) I could not see the third set of bushings. These are larger, and look like a plastic ring with a raised collar Part # 115 267 12 50 ... I thought they would support and cushion the rod, but it looks like it goes thru the width of the box without using any bushings. Just the molded holes already in the box.
I took some photos but am having trouble accessing them, and was too impatient to wait to access/attach the photos... will work on that.
Anyone else with a later model SEC find no provision for these bushings when doing this job ? They weren't there when I pulled the box apart, and damned if I can see where they might fit !! Maybe this "gear box" does not use those bushings ? ...The rod has a grey lube on it ...
Thanks, as always !
