Hey guys it's been a good 4 years since I've posted or even owned a Mercedes benz, but today I'm back with a 1984 SEC 500, I literally know nothing about this car so I'm hoping y'all will be able to help me out, so first of all the car says AMG on the back, surely someone put that on aftermarket right? Also if y'all could tell me what motor it has and whether the steering wheel and rims are factory? I'm not sure how long it's been sitting I'd estimate about 6 years so I assume drop the tank, blow out fuel lines, new filter, oil change, lube cylinders and see if it'll fire. Any responses would be appreciated I've attached some pictures it's sat under a bridge so it's pretty much covered
Looks like a Gen1 500SEC (84-85) US spec car (184hp) 5.0L M117.963
AMG cosmetic mods: Trunk badge and front and rear spoiler/skirts, no center AMG marking (AMG badge worth a good $200-400 if legit)
Euro lights put on which is a plus
Interior looks like it was redone with a custom touch (upholstery, steering wheel, shifter)
The car has weathered inside from sitting however the paint looks pretty good
Wheels are standard BBS issue (17"?)
Looks to be code 931 Nautical Blue - very pretty color when polished
Does it have 270k miles?
Here's an example of another SEC like yours ......see the euro bumpers' lower profile and just how that shines.....
Reach out to member Alibasi in Dallas. He has several W126 and a shop there, with many parts and can help. If you cant find him here, let me know I will get his contact thru MBCA Dallas Chapter.
Thanks for yalls help! I'm gonna hopefully go pick it up today, if the AMG badges are worth anywhere near predicted I've pretty much got my money back already lol
Is that a public parking lot ? I'd like to know what public parking lot lets you keep a car parked there for six years! Every local lot would have it towed and impounded after a few weeks or month. Curious what's the story behind those "protected by the police department of Addison " signs on it ??
The amg badge and body kit look real , and period correct . But the interior mods (steering wheel, pedals seats etc) looks to be done later and definitely fake /eBay type stuff . I'm guessing the interior was refurbished later as it wore out
So the story behind the car is that it's parked at a car dealership which owns the land under the bridge anyway the owner of the car owned the dealership and later sold the dealership to someone else but still owns the car a few others are still parked there. I have no clue where those signs came from lol I'd guess the new owners put them on there because it wasn't their car plus it looks like someone stole the radio out of it, I'm gonna have some buddies help me hopefully air up those tires and help push it across a big parking lot filled with Maseratis etc so a tow truck can get it, I'll try and get the vin when I get there in a few hours so stay tuned
So bad news, they can't find the key to it, luckily I haven't paid them yet so I'm kind of in a bind, a tow truck can't get back there and the car has a wheel lock so I'm pretty disappointed, I'm out of ideas
Could it be that god is speaking to you? On the other hand , pay for it smash the glass ,cut off the wheel lock ,get a smaller tow truck ( those guys can get in anywhere) and drag it up onto the flat bed ( soap up the tray ) and get the beast home and beaded down in a warm garage . Then you can tell everyone here how little you paid for it and how great it is !
I sure hope you save this car, its lovely! I bet the paint will bounce right back with a good bath and detail too. Working on these cars is quite straight forward and many maintenance parts are cheaper than you realize. Beyond that this site has great members fanatical about helping other owners and keeping the 126 in tip top shape.
If you need to move the car immediately you can always buy wheel dollys from Harbor Freight as an alternative.
I got my key and tumble set form a guy in Texas and only had to give him the vin over the phone I believe. Someone here gave me the guys contact info at the dealership.
