I have not been able to kick into passing gear on my 1988 560SEC. Could this be a problem with the FPR? It will speed up but does not kick down. Any ideas on where I should start looking?
Under the gas pedal is a rubber button that is depressed when you floor it. Verify that your pedal goes all the way down, depressing this button. Carpet covering the button? Throttle linkage misadjusted? FPR? it has nothing to do with passing gear.
Yes, the Fuel Pump relay is a possible culprit. But check the kickdown switch first before you swap the relay. After that there is linkage that can be adjusted but thats less in need of messing with.
