Can anyone say how rare a 5 speed 280SE actually is? is it worth a lot of money just because its rare? isn't a SEC more valuable because of rarity? Even if a 280SE 5 Speed was more rare than a 500SEC its still not a more valuable collector car correct?
Yes they are fairly rare, the 5 speed was an option with 280 or 350 sl/slc/se(no 350 w126). But I can't see it being a five digit car as a 6cyl sedan no matter how rare.
Look at any Mercedes sedan from the past 60 years , the only ones with any Reasonable value were the top of the line models like the 6.3, 6.9, Adenauer or 600 Grosser. All the low end manual transmission sedans are worth less than a Hyundai
If you are buying for potential appreciation you have to go for coupes and convertibles
Then the rare top of the line sedans like amg cars
Cars and appreciation are oxymorons. If the goal is to "make money" then you buy low, sell high but the range for cars is miniscule. You had better get a deal or "free" if you want to see any sort of money. Just the cost to store a car alone is more than what you'll make back. Even if you bought a 300 SL Gullwing brand new and sold it at auction for $3.5M, you would have made much more money putting the initial sticker price into an Index Fund.
No someone has one for sale but he wants crazy money. And a tree fell on it.
