i hope someone has experienced this before. my car starts fine runs like a bat out of hell, but after driving and parked for a while, when restarting its fine but trying to move off in drive it bogs down and wont go anywhere and acts like it wants to stall out.then i put it in neutral after this and it starts to idle fine. it seems to be acting like its getting too much gas but if that were true then how come it idles normal in park or neutral. sometimes when its acting like that it feels lack of fuel and other times it seems like for a split second its losing spark. thanks to all you gentlemen in advance for your help in this matter.
Sorry it's a 1991 560sec federal emissions. Runs great most of the time but acts up momentarily and once I put it in park or neutral when it's acting up and then rev the engine a couple of times it's good to go.
I should add that it was mostly parked in a garage for two years and started regularly. I did run sea foam in the tank and poured pure sea foam in the hose from the iac but the problem still persists. I haven't tried to much yet.
I was thinking about rebuilding the fuel distributor with the new diaphragm and O rings from eBay but would like to be sure and isolate the problem to that first before I go to that trouble.
I know there are a few very experienced ex w126 technicians on this sight and also many enthusiasts who are very familiar with these old cars. So let's see what happens. Too bad it's not OBD ll.
Thanks for listening.
I checked all vacuum connections at engine and trans everything ok also my economy gauge is pegged o the left on startup indicating good vacuum.
Seems not many members are viewing this holiday weekend.
I appreciate the response very much. Guess the car just needs to be driven. Just bought it about three weeks ago.
Well I've given about four Italian tune ups. The thing is the symptoms only show up unannounced.
Although it has not behaved like that since, I can't be certain the problem is rectified. I think i will keep my fingers crossed.
I'm still hoping for some more ideas just in case.
In the meantime, why not search the forum archive for related threads?
There is a wealth of information. If not sure 'how to,' check the 'new members, please read.....' announcement / tutorial on top of the W126 + there also is a free service manual (make sure you click on the correct disc).
It might be a good idea to add the car to your profile.
Maintenance history of the car = when were wire set, ign rotor & cap, spark plugs, filters etc last changed.....?
Cheers
The cap rotor wires and plugs were changed. The problem is intermittent oh the fuel filter was also replaced. It runs great but it has been known on occasion to act up. I adjusted the lambda it seemed to run even better. I'll see how it goes next few days. Hopefully the problem has left the building. :devil
The vehicle is in my profile its a 1991 560sec along with a 1969 Pagoda.
Check fuel pressure for leak down after running. if it drops time to look for leak. could be injectors, cold start valve, fuel distributor or accumulator
