setting timing

I hook up a timing light to my 1990 420sel. As I turn the distributor, the timing mark shows virtually no movement. Should I be disconnecting something before I use the timing light? Any help would be really appreciated

Thanks,
Alan

Re: setting timing

Where are you hookin' the light?? On the plug wire right? You shouldn't have to unhook anything. Not that I know of. I don't know, it's been a while since I messed with timing, but that's all I remember... attach it, start the car and watch for the marker as you adjust the distributor. Good Luck.
