Hey,
I really don't know much about cars but, I just bought this mercedez benz and I was wondering what I could add to it to make it better. It has 100,000 miles on it and it seems to run fine. I just need ideas of what I could do.
change the oil, has the timing chain/rails been done? if not, it's definately time for those, flush out radiator and brakes, if you like overkill maintenance replace fuel filters, spark plugs, radiator hoses and the belts. Otherwise, i would just worry about the oil being changed and the timing chain being good,
good luck
Ryan
I'm sure to get a comment or to from bozo-boy, but I suggest that you leave the car as original as possible. With that low of a milage, you should get years of enjoyment out of that car.
I've seen this suggested many times on this board, as well as the consequences of not performing the maintenence on time. I bought my car with 141,000 miles on it and an wondering if it possible to check if this has been done already. Also, are there any warning signs that it is about to go?
I agree with Keith that keeping the car original is good, but there are some small things that you can do to make it look a bit more modern. Adding white clear indicator lenses to the front does the business. Some might say that changing the rear lenses to half red and clear may be going a bit too far, but I have already done that to my 500SE and it looks good. But again everyone has their own individual taste and I am not crticising anyone. Even though I am still young (22), I have found from experience with my BMW M3 that making major changes to the orignal specification usually causes problems later on at some stage.
from what i've read on another forum, there is no real notice that they are about to give, it just gives out. The little plastic slide rails apparantly become very brittle and break off, lodging themselves in places they shouldn't be. If you look at the rails and they look beer bottled color, your on borrowed time. If you dont know if it's been done you should probably do it, it's cheap insurance versus what could happen.
Ryan
