Hi everyone,

I have just recently bought a 500SE (1984) Euro model (as I am european) and what a great car it is. The previous owner had to replace the trunk lid because of damage. He told me about this when I had questioned where is the '500SE' badge. (It is a genuine 500SE because I had thoroughly checked out the engine and vehicle data records through an independant organisation which all match).

The previous owner advised me that the trunk lid replacement had come off a 280SE. The original pin wholes holes for the 280SE badging are still there (even though the trunk has been resprayed and blended in with rest of the paintwork. The previous owner thinks that a 500SE badge should slot straight into the pin holes (this being the reason why he didn't get the bodyshop to fill the pin holes in).

My local dealar is not very helpful and is useless, and to order the 500SE badge replacment, I have to pay up front and cannot get a refund if the pin holes do not line up and fit.

Does anyone know if the alignment of the pin holes are the same between a 500SE and 280SE badge before I order the 500SE badge replacement???

Thanx guys.

Thanks for the suggestion Keith. Unfortunately, I`m from the Uk so it wouldn't be worth my while to buy the badge from e-bay after the shippings costs have been added. Plus mine is short wheel base. However, I still don't know if all the pin holes for the bagdes for the SE range are the same.
dont worry if it was off a 280se it will fit a 500se badge onto it only if its a sel it needs one more hole where the 'L' is

hope this helps you
