560 cat/non cat version

Does anyone know if there are any differences to the engine itself between the 279 hp cat and the 300 hp non-cat 560 engine?? Is it only the removal of the cats that makes those extra 21 hp?

/Henrik

I am at least 90% sure that the cat is the only difference, other than maybe other small emissions devices like an EGR or air pump(would lose very little if any HP on those). Yeah, stock cats, esp. older design ones are very restrictive!! I would say replace it with a modern high flow unit and get maybe 15 of those 21HP back and remain completely legal.

Re: 560 cat/non cat version

Hey Justin, where can I get one of them bad boys (cat that is). I have an emission problem where I suspect that my 13 year old cat on the 560sel is cooked hence I keep failing Maryland emission standards. Thanks

Re: 560 cat/non cat version

I've heard some things in some posts about www.randomtechnology.com I think a high flow cat from there is a little over 200 bucks....they are supposed to be the highest flowing ones available. Carsound also makes some high flow versions. They are a lot cheaper I think...don't know if that means they are not as good.
