SEC Hood (Bonnet) on a SE/L

Has anyone tried to put a W126 SEC hood on a SE/SEL? From the way it looks a SEC hood and headlight assemblies can go on just fine without any modifications. I think the W126 sedan will look awesome with it.

Don't hold me to this, but I am 95% sure that this won't work. They are completely different front ends. You would have to do an entire front end surgery including hood, quarter panels, entire front clip, radiator cross beam, bumper etc... I'm not sayin it's impossible, I'm sure it is POSSIBLE, but it would require much much money and effort which wouldn't make it affordable or worthwhile for the average person.

Tobias is correct, you need to transfer the entire front sheetmetal, bumpers, lights, indicators, etc etc to make this work. Big expensive job. The SEL would look great, like an SEC front on :-)

Re: SEC Hood (Bonnet) on a SE/L

You are all right. It would normaly take all new sheet metal, but there are conversion hoods around. You just pop it on and change your lights. This is very expensive. At one point in time the major tuners had a sec hood out for every 4 door sedan. The only company that carries this peice today is in Australia and they want around 1000 for it in us dollars, i think. There is a cheap option. Get the sec grill for your car. The inserts are around 80. you can get them off ebay, or performance products-they have a website and catalog for the w126.

I always thought it would look cool to take an SEC and put an SEL grille/front end on it, as well as remove the chrome around the trunk and put an SEL trunk bar.
