Hello all,
I have a cheapie 1988 560 SEL that I am in the process of sorting out. Most of the centre console is dead, there are no fan speeds, no aircon, and no air recirc.
Is this most likely down to the resistors on the heater motor? I would welcome any advice, certainly before winter :)
Regards
Chris
the controls may be bad. I've heard that Mercedes had problems with their climate control units in the 80's.
I'm still trying to get mine to blow from the front vents and not the top. (the heat index is 110 in Dallas today)

There are several possible causes:
1) There is an under the hood fuse box that could
have a dead fuse.
2) There is a second "in-line" fuse behind the
panel for the blower motor.
3) The blower motor itself could be bad.
4) The console switch panel printed ciruit board
may be malfunctioning.
5) There is a blower circuit switch on the
ignition. Sometimes you can get the blower to
work by wiggling the key.
Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, the culprit was the ignition switch. Mind you it wasn't cheap to fix as the steering lock needed replacing too. I dont suppose you know where the fuses for the electric rear seat is?

humm...I have been suspecting the fuses or the
blower motor in 88 420SEL. Any way to check this out on the ignition?
My console has flakey problems, like the oil guage sometimes goes dead and a slight tap on the odometer reset button will cause the guage to come to life (not a oil sending unit problem). The other associated problem is the odemoeter reset button does not seem to work-(can't reset the odometer - wlll not push in to reset dial/mileage).
Thanks for any ideas on where to look.
Ed
