There is a tapping noise from the car engine. The mechanic says it is the oil pump. Changing the oil pump is expensive. Also the water pump is in its last leg. He says, wait till the water pump breaks down. Then we can change both. That will save labor costs. Till then keep driving, he says. Nothing will happen to the car, as long as the oil pressure is normal. If I want to get rid of the noise, he says add a quart of transmission fluid to the oil, when I do the oil change next time. He says the tapping noise may disappear. I was exploring the options of which transmission oil to buy at Walmart, the guy at Walmart suggested using Marvel Mystery Oil. I had never heard of it, and he showed me where it was. I did not buy both. I just decided to post here at the forum. Here are my two questions:
1. Is it okay to be driving the car around with this tapping noise? Will it not cause any further damage to any other parts of the car?
2. Does adding transmission oil (Dex III Merc) or Marvel Mystery Oil get rid of the tapping noise?
