Lightbulb 560SEC with 722.6

Hello guys! I'm planning to install 722.6 tranny from S500 W140 to my 1988 560SEC ABC Exclusive. Because this 722.3 tranny is old, low torque outputs and very high revs in freeway. There is company "Powertrain Control Solutions" PCS can control the 722.6 tranny. Any ideas?

What rear end ratio does your SEC run? If you don't know, tell us the RPM's at 60MPH in top gear.

Does the 722.6 have overdrive? This could be interesting.

I think its a great idea. I installed the M120 V12 engine and 722.6 trans into my 560SL. The 722.6 alone makes the car really nice. I have increased my gas mileage by about 15% by putting this engine and trans in over the M117/722.3. I belie most of the gas mileage increase is due to the new trans with lockup converter and over drive 5th.

I have heard the 722.6 from the early M119's will bolt directly to the M117 with 2 bolts that wont line up but can be left out???. You may get away without shortening your drive shaft and the trans output flange is available in both 3 and 4 lobe.

The PCM controller does not exactly sound plug an play to me I understand it is a solution.

I have been pondering the same thing, but with the addition of Paddle Shifting which would really lend itself better to that tranny. I've got the PS part all worked out, that's easy. It's just making the .6 talk to the car, or rather make the car talk to the .6. From what I understand, the 126 lacks the necessary control inputs. If you want to talk about it, PM me and lets collaborate if you want. I will be following your progress with great interest.

Best of luck!

well according to this a 126 certainly does have a TPS:
http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w126...on-sensor.html , which is one of the important inputs in controlling the transmission. maybe that could be tapped (in Parallel) into in for the signal to the PCM (powertain control module).
but it may need other other inputs such as a topographical sensor, RPM, Vehicle speed (possibly from ABS).

Not sure what else I'm missing.

The PCS controller is Good but it requires a LOT Of programming which is very time consuming. If you head over to PeachParts, find the user whipplem104, see if he'll sell you an already programed PCS control unit, @ least this will have you Well on the way to shifting OK out of the box.

That aside, I bolted up a .6 bell-housing to a 560 the other day, lined up beautifully..

a .6 would IMHO, be the perfect addition to these cars, couple that w/ forced induction via a pair of GT28's, stand alone fuel & spark....hmmmmmm...

Or, "just" put a V12 in like John;-)

I think putting a 722.620 trans behind a M117 is a very do-able mod without much fuss
The PCS Trans Controller Unit is a smart solution to running the trans and i now have one of those units to play with
Powertrain Control Solutions | PCS | Sound German Automotive

I also noticed also recently this guy in Europe is all over the 722.6 trans with his own similar control unit which is plug and play
Take you time to watch his "many" Youtube clips on the subject and take a look at the instructions link below as well - his various video clips explain a lot of technical info in great and clear detail
He even provides a kit to adapt to your tailshaft to run the W126 ABS and also mods on how to run your speedo as well in the instruction manual link below
Enjoy

Yep, Ole Fejer is a good guy, his controllers work out of the box,
what you need is a sensor to the throttlelinkage, so the controller knows how much power you want from the engine, aswell as a boostsensor if you have a turbo.
the options is endless, if you have aftermarket controller for the engine, the gearbox controller can send a signal to that to stop acceleration/WOT while shifting etc.

his mail is in the link to googledocs there, and his support is good, his controller will make the gearbox "stronger" than stock since you can increase pressure.

I'm running the PCS controller and so far very happy with it. If you get it from Sound German Automotive, it's pretty much a complete kit with the needed sensors. I have a thread in the performance section of the other forum detailing the install.
