Hi, I am from the W201 crowd.

Can any one tell me if front dome (courtesy) lights from a 1985 500SEC or from any W126 have the delay circuitry...that is, open car door than close...courtesy light remains on until time delay turns it back off.

If yes, how many seconds?

Thank you for the quick reply!

Seems W126, W123, W201, etc. lights are interchangeable & BUT W126, W123 lights are cheaper than W201 lights on eBay.

Here is the reason why I wanted to add the delay function:
I modded the "trim ring" on the ignition tumbler with a light feature & wanted to connect this to a dome light with delay timer. Open car door, than close...trim ring on ignition tumbler "glows blue" & remains on till it times out.

That mod looks great

Hey,

That mod looks great.

Are you going to sell them, or tell us how it was done?

I want at least 4.

Pic1 - el wire, 1.3mm dia., purchased from eBay, $8.50 shipped. Comes in diff colors & diameters.

Pic2 - el wire inverter, included with el wire, requires +12V source.

Pic3 - el wire powered on.

Pic4 - el wire inverter, modded +12V pwr cig connector to plugs instead.

Pic5 - Ign tumbler trim ring with chrome ring removed.

Pic6 - cut excess el wire off, just leave about 12". Drill tiny hole (1.5mm) on black plastic ring, push el wire through from back & wrap around twice, as shown in pic. Also note the plastic "chrome ring" have ALL the chrome scrapped off from the back side. Now this trim ring becomes see through.

Pic7 - powered on to shown luminescence.

Pic8 - el wire installed, this one shows only a bit of the chrome have been scrapped off from the back of chrome ring. Notice light shines only through that area.

Pic9 - flowable clear silicone used to adhere clear plastic trim ring onto black trim ring (24hr curing time required).

Pic10 - clear plastic ring installed & powered on.

A few pics, glow trim ring just powered temp to +12V from cluster. Waiting for dome light with delay function before proper implementation.

There you have, real easy mod.

Enjoy, good luck.....
