From: 1981 Mercedez 600 SLC AMG Hammer

1981 Mercedez 600 SLC AMG Hammer - $27500 (North Scottsdale)

This unique, well loved, SLC was custom built to a customer's specs by AMG of North America on an original USA-spec. SLC. SLC means it has a back seat. This may be the only SLC with the full AMG modification ever built. The original engine has been replaced with an AMG 6.0 liter V8, which produces 400 horsepower. This car does 0-60 in under 6 seconds. Other AMG mods include: side body panels, fiberglass front fenders, and front spoiler. 17" AMG wheels, ehaust, brakes, Hammer front floor mats, too much to list. The interior has original factory vinyl panels replaced with leather to match the heated, full power Recaro sport seats. AMG Grey guage faces, hidden radar detector, and garage door opener comlete the dash. The chassis has been lowered and tuned with Billstein gas shocks and struts, oversize sway bars, nylon bushings and springs. Euro headlights complete the effect. The car is offered at less than half of what the conversion job cost alone. Call Terry at 907-230-2277. Must regretfully sell because of illness in the family. You can see this car at the Pavillions Car Show today, 6/19/10.

That's sick...the SL is starting to grow on me.

SLC, not SL

AMG NA would upgrade SLC's, up to 6.0 too, but they could not fit the 32V in there (shame). First I've seen one of these too

So what's it like to drive, Bruce?

Now I don't want to offend anyone in the SL community, I think the cars look nice (yours included Bruce), but this generation SL did not have the best suspension setup and far inferior to that of a W126, they were great at the time for hole shots and to beat corvettes of that era, other than that, for someone that is 6'2" who wants bolsters in your knees all day and a engine bay so cramped you had to practically had to pull the motor out to work on………and don’t get me started on the early model’s vacuum system…………IMOP a spare parts car Mercedes put together on the fly from w114 parts they had leftover and it didn't have the finesse of the w113 pagoda………..and good god 4500lbs for a safe sports car?

IF THE 107 WAS THAT BAD HOW COME IT HAD THE LONGEST PRODUCTION RUN OF ANY MERCEDES EVER, FROM 1971 TO 1989 ?
I GOT A 1981 380SLC (34 YEARS OLD) WITH 160,000 MLS, AND SUSPENSION LOOKS ALL ORIGINAL, ONLY EVER HAD TO REPLACE ONE REAR DROP LINK, AND CAR STILL HANDLES FANTASTIC, ESPECIALLY ON MOTORWAY HIGH SPEED. AND REGARDING THE WEIGHT, YOU ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE 107 WEIGHT AND PRAISING THE 126 BUT I THINK THAT ONE IS EVEN MORE HEAVY ISNT IT? LOOKS LIKE YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU TALK ABOUT........
AND THE CAR WAS NEVER DESIGNED AS A SPORTS CAR, BUT AS A TOURING CRUISER, AND NEITHER IS THE 126.
ohhhhhhhhhh, and how come if the SLC suspension was that bad and car was way too heavy and it was not even designed as a proper sports car it had quite good success in racing??????????
strange....................., miracle??????????????

Well, I'm off to play Benz Mythbuster, then.

I don't know that I'd chase this guy down to look at the car but I will go to the Pavilions tonight. With camera. I wanna see the motor. Pics to follow. I'll be in the 380SL (not mine, long story) so maybe I'll get a side-by-side shot to show just how much of a dachshund the SLC can be from some angles!

The car is a 1981, but it could have had the AMG treatment done few years later at AMG of NA. Some of the info is exaggerated, but still an interesting car:thumbsup:

I just thought that the seller was using 'hammer' to pique interest. It worked, apparantly.

Great looking car, in any case, and, according to Jono, the SOHC is a lot less trouble than the DOHC.

This car is back

Guys,

I have just come back from viewing this car.

The car is absolutely gorgeous, the car is in San Diego.

The body modifications are very extensive, including full AMG body kit with modified front fenders. The guy that has it is a family friend of the original guy mentioned in POS's post (Terry), the car is for sale. The car is lowered on a set of white AMG Springs and has a set of Aero 1 on without ///. The car looks very legit , Recaro's, Instruments, some sort of signature and date on the door pillar. The car was originally an American Spec 380SLC but now has Euro Bumpers and Lights with wash wipe.

I have asked the guy to take some pictures and post info about it here.

350SLC AMG 7.3 L with 5 speed manual.
The car was mentioned on the M100 forum with lots of pics.
This is the only one I had.
The car was build for a German Banker who paid racing driver Hans Stuck according how quick he could get him to work in another town via the autobahn.
Was later brought to the U.S. by Barry Taylor.

I found the old link.
AMG 7.3 L 350SLC with 5-speed manual, you have to go to the home page, and scroll down to get to all four pages HOME
Some awesome cars beside the SLC.
Cheers
That is an AWESOME machine. I drove the Green Machine when I worked at Barry Taylor's. It is indeed a 7.3L engine with a 5-speed manual. It's a dry sump engine with the oil tank located in the trunk. When I drove it, it would stumble a little taking off until it got warmed up so I'd give it a bit of gas to get past the stumbling. It would catch and then it was HANG ON - THIS MOTHER'S GOING *DOWN* THE ROAD!! You either had it pointed right when you jumped on it or you were going to hit something!

Barry told me that the SLC's were lighter and stiffer than the other 107's so would take modifications like this without having to do a lot to them. He also told me that the banker that owned it had a refrigerator in the back and that he'd tell Hans Stuck, his driver, that he'd get a "bonus" if he'd get him home in an hour. He lived 150 miles away and Hans generally got the bonus. Probably true, maybe not, but a good story.

Great thread guys! The SLC has really grown on me recent years, I feel like these cars have truly come into their own. That green 7.3L car is pretty damn cool, as is the black one on page 1. The M100 website for the green car is neat as well.

Barry Taylor has one of them parked in the garage of his personal residence and I have seen his "Green Machine" as he calls it both in and out of the garage.

It has a storied racing history and I believe it is his favorite personal ride. He takes it out every once in a while to drive, or to a MBCA event.

Are those air vents on the side fenders? Also, the exhaust, is this aftermarket? The hammer carpets are a new one to me but you could get personalized ones back in the day - still can actually. Does the car come with AMG paperwork?
