i was checking my tranny fluid just now, and when inserting the dipstick back into the tube, i heard a little snap. I pulled the dipstick, and i see that about an inch of the dipstick was gone. it just snapped right off. now it has me worried as hell. i don't think the piece went into the transmssion because when i try to insert the dipstick it doesn't go in. feels like something is blocking it.
do you guys know if the tube where the tranny dipstick goes into is removable so i could pull that piece out????
please help. this is stressing me out a bit.
How far down is the "blockage"? If it's far down, I'd look to see what the tube looks like at that level.
I don't know-- seems to me that I've seen this problem some other time on the forum... do a quick search and see what you come up with. I'm going to go look at the end of the tube and assess the likelihood of removal.

First, no need to worry. No matter the tip fell into the pan or stuck on the tube, there will be no damage to tranny, and rest assured, it'll never make into the circulation of tranny system.
Secondly, if you are handy, you can drop the pan and check if the broken tip is in the bottom of the pan. Take it out as easy as 12 then mount it back. If not, use a wire or a flex nylon bar to push it down, or you can take the tube out - not hard at all. When you do this, you will lose fluid but fluid is cheap, isn't?
You do NOT have to remove that 1" piece of the dipstick. The flow in there isn't enough to grab it. The tranny pump has a nice big filter on the end of the suction tube and that little piece won't plug it. There isn't anything under there moveable that the piece will jam.
Go buy another dipstick and hoist a beer (or six) to the very smart engineers at Mercedes.

It did happen to me.You can just let it sit in the bottom of the pan,there will be no problem from it.Or take the pan off and get it out like I did but no rush...

You'll need to change out the tranny fluid, the filter, and gasket anyway with your new purchase.
Changing all the fluids when one first get a car set a benchmark off which to figure mileage till the next time. And it'll let you see the condition of said fluids.
So get the little piece out when you change out the fluid, filter, and gasket.
When you put the new (jy) dip stick in do it slow to push out the old piece.

i'm going to change the tranny fluid tommorow. including torque converter.
now for the dipstick, just push the broken piece down into the pan with a new dipstick? is that right chadahar?
because I can feel blockage about one foot or so down into the tube. the rest of my dipstick (whatever is left of it) will not go down into the tube.
I'll get it together tommorow.
now for fluid. this guy at kragen (employee) told me that it does not matter what brand of fluid I put into the tranny. he said that for the most part they all get the job done. what do you guys think?
I researched a bit on here and saw some posts talking about mobil atf as the right choice.
(now tell me if my plans are smart or a big mistake waiting to happen)
My plans for tommorow when it comes to fluid was to buy a reasonable priced atf like the kragen guy told me to do, and add one bottle of Lucas trans fix in there. I heard from several different sources including one post on here about success with the lucas transmission product.

Any ATF III and up should do to change the fluid in tranny and torque converter.
The how to is in the forum archive, how to search etc is in the 'Welcome...' announcement on top.
If there is noting wrong with the tranny why put the Lucas stuff in there?
Good hexagonal (allen) sockets, transmission filter with gasket, and you are all set.
