Take the test, pass, don't worry about it for 2 more years!
Took my 1984 500 SEC CA model with 164,432 miles in for it's biannual prostrate exam (smog inspection) and once again passed with no issues.
This year was unique. My SEC had been selected to test at a TEST ONLY or GOLD STAR test station due to the selection process done here by the State of California. Not sure why it was singled out but guessing it is due to a high number of like year/model failures recorded here.

For those that understand what these numbers mean in regards to engine performance and tuning (I don't), feel free to comment on my engines settings and what I could do to make it better.
The only things I have done between tests as far as the engine is concerned is new Kingsborne 7 mm wires, NGK plugs (5's), oil changes and air filter and the replacement of the stock main cat with a 49 state cat (single flowmaster). I have a Magnaflow resonator and Magnaflow stainless muffler. Did an "Italian tune up" just prior to taking it in for the inspection.
I was unable to watch the inspection so I have no idea if his visual included looking at the cat up close and personal. He did not place the car on a lift so I doubt he could make out what cat was on it.
So long story longer, I guess it does not matter if you are running a 49 state cat for the California smog check. Don't forget to comment on how to get my numbers better!
Cheers,
Greg
