replacing rear vent/quarter window

My driver's side rear vent window/quarter window, what ever you call it was recently broken. Along with this, the chrome sill on the passenger's side rear door below the window was damaged too. I've got an estimate for $422 to replace the window, chrome and a few pieces of weather striping, but I'm sure I could do it for much less on my own.

I'm curious if any of you have replaced this window before, is it hard, or something I should let a professional do? I have taken the interior of the door apart before, so I have a loose idea of how to start.

First if you have the door panel off locate the two bolts that hold the window track on the bottom. They should be in the rear of the window towards the quarter glass. Take those out.

Next try to pry the actual track bar out. Next loosen the window regulator, should be two bolts and one nut. Now begin to wiggle the whole motor out.
Be careful as the window my want to come down. Let it come down and let it sit below. Only when you get the whole regulator/ motor out!

Next pry out the track seal from the top. You will see a tiny phllips head screw on the upper part of the trim next to the quarter window inside.

Once removed take out the chrome piece. You will have to play with it to get it out. Just be gentle and twist it around as you pull out.

Now the quarter window will slide out! Just give her a gentle tug and she will slide out. On your install just soap up the rubber and slide it back in!

Hope this helps!
Rick

I think your chrome piece is the drip rail moulding that runs horizontally. That piece is held in by 4 or 5 clips that you will see with the door panel off. The gasket is a one piece unit that the replacement glass will sit inside the seal.

Follow the directions already posted and you should be fine.

Regards,

My window has finally arrived, so I've started taking the door apart. However, it's been a while since I've done this and I can't figure out how to get the panel off. I seem to remember that it slides off, but I can't remember in which direction. It doesn't seem to want to really move.

I can't seem to remove the ash try surround as well, which is probably why the whole panel won't come out. The actual ash tray is out, but the black surround is still in, how does that come out? I've tried prying it but I don't want to damage the panel anymore.

NO!!!! you do not need to take the ashtray bracket out and the door card/trim lifts straight up in line with the window - anything else and you will break the plastic hangers and be looking for a new door card. The card is HUNG on the door, the hangers are part of the plastic card frame...
