thinking about trying the Amsoil Tractor Hydraulic/Transmission Oil in the self-leveling system of a 1991 560SEL. somewhat less expensive than the FEBI oil, link to product below (top product, tractor/hydraulic oil). any chance using this oil might harm the self leveling system?
the manual says it takes 3.5 quarts if flushed. it appears there is a drain plug on the fluid reservoir. do I merely drain the fluid or is there a flushing operation that needs to take place? if so, what might be the procedure for flushing the self-leveling system? thanks!

This is one of the areas where you have to ask yourself; is saving a few dollars worth the possible grief? The oil viscosity is not an issue but the additives may promote failure and you won't know unless it happens. Struts are quite expensive and fluid is cheap, why take a chance.
That's just it, the items/parts in the JD tractor that we use said oil in makes the SLS struts look Very cheap...my other thought being the conditions/strain the SLS systems sees pale in comparison to what the tractor goes through.
I've been running it in my white coupe for almost 4 years now (one flush thus far) and everything is A Ok!
thank you for the input, I ended up purchasing the mercedes OEM product due to availability and shipping considerations, i.e., the seller gave free shipping if the order was over a certain dollar amount. Now, I need to know how to flush the self-leveling system properly. Do I simply drain the fluid reservoir or is there another procedure (evaculation, etc.) that is required?
If you search around flushing the SLS system has been written up in detail. To flush it (as well as one can w/o taking the struts off) will require 1-2 gallons to Really get things looking/staying clean.
It's the SLS filter for a W123 touring... easy enough to find... One more reason why it's handy to order parts from someone that deals w/ these cars day in and day out, eh?
absolutely. I noticed that you are into modifications on these cars. I was wondering if a 119 engine would drop into a 1991 560SEL. if so, it would probably need a different transmission, correct? also, could one cryogenically treat an M119 engine and supercharge it? I imagine the car would be good for at least 170 MPH or so.......
