Propane Powered Mercedes?

I come from Jeeps and off-road vehicles, and enthusiasts have recently raved about the benefits of propane as an alternate fuel.

Has anybody ever considered what it would take to convert a gas powered Mercedes to propane?

Those diesel guys are rubbing the veg oil in our faces.....with rising fuel costs, I wonder if propane injection could be made to work with the CIS on our gassers?

Have you tried the forum search function? BWAHAHAHA! Had to say it! There have been several post from guys who did the conversion from Europe and in Oz too IIRC. Hell, this would be the bomb if we converted both our AC and fuel to propane!

I have considered adding propane the the diesel/vegioil in my 300SD but I will first put a system in the diesel motorhome since it has all it needs.
It is supposed to give a 25% improvement on milage.

There are several threads in the archive. I keep seeing propane powered W126 on German Ebay.

Do a search on "LPG".

There are 2 systems... one that fuels LPG via the air intake. The other injects it straight into the cylinder chamber. The latter is whats more efficient, but more expensive to install.

I drive my 190E occasionally on LPG, but tend to stick with gasoline. Its got a 35L tank in the spare wheel well. Its doable in a mercedes, but you need to be careful as the rubber bits in the engine compartment tend to stress out from the LPG and can crack.

That kit looks like it should fit on a carbuerated intake....

I'm sure one would be able to make it work, but I'm wondering how it can be adapted to the CIS....

Seeing as LPG is a constantly pressurized system, wouldn't there need to be something done regarding the fuel pumps and the FPR? I understand the FPR is designed to cut off gas flow in the event of a wreck along w other responsibilities, but is it as simple as bypassing these steps in the fuel delivery process?

Maybe the cost outweighs the benefits, but there has to be a simple system one could fab up to do a LPG/GAS switchable option. It would definitely be nice to have.

My plan is diesel/propane (gas/propane) that simply adds propane to the intake in the air filter at a constant volume and at long trips to improve the consumption.
You can have 3 stabil levels of volume delivered.

Propane is cleaner then gasoline but it has less energy. 25.5 megajoules per liter for propane and 34.8 for regular gasoline. Propane is just slightly better the ethanol. With ethanol at 23.5. To use propane you have to burn about 1.5 times as much to get the same distance down the road. I don't think it's cost effective.

And diesels run on more the just veggy oil. They will run on just about any oil.
