OK, so I have already been in touch with a few LA members about this idea.
I am going to be paying the fair city of angels a visit at the end of July early August, in fact I arrive on the 29 July and leave on the 2 August (late).
I am looking to see what interest there may be in a bit of a GTG either the Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or up until early evening Saturday for a bit of a GTG, 'pick-a-part' scavenge, point and giggle (of course I will be in a rental car, not my car), bite to eat, slew of bevvies, whatever...
There are already a few names I know I will be annoying in my few days there.
Post your interest, if I get no posts then I know I will spend my time in LA doing cheesy crap like Disney Land.
Anyhow, Teutone will have some better ideas about what we will do...
Look forward to meeting anyone who can join us.
Cheers
(this message will selfunstick after I get back to Australia)

From What I hear from Jim B., Horst will not let you go to Disneyland........or die of thirst.
I'm in!
Love to meet some of the others in the LA area. Week before is the NOR CAL Diesel Drive (19th).

I am hoping to make it down, (though it's about a 700 mile trip, I am from near Reno), as I will tell you, I was wonderfully and warmly received by Horst, Charlie (Chadahar), Diametrical BENZ, ElRojo and several others...
when I was in town last October-November to have a lot of work done on my car by Enrique at MR MB in Tarzana, up in the San Fernando Valley.
Horst took over the keys to my car, and we went out every night for drinks, and let me tell you, he is wonderfully hospitable and having been in the Music business, knows all the best places to go in the Valley, especially the secret ones where the famous musicians and actresses/actors/movie stars like to go where they won't get mobbed by autograph hounds and people who say "I love your work"
Forget Disney land. Instead, not far from there, is the Mercedes Benz Classic center, on 9 Watney, just off the I-5 in Irvine, in Orange County...
It's like a combination museum, restoration center, sourvenir store, and showroom, and the fellows in the parts department are engaging and friendly, one of them sacrificed his entire lunch hour so that I could interview him.
Los Angeles is also a car culture, and has many fascinating things to see, like the CEC (Claus Ettinger corporation) Lorinser showroom in Beverly Hills, the Peterson Auto Museum on the Miracle Mile near downtown LA on Wilshire blvd, and Beverly Hills/West LA/Santa Monica itself is amazing, the Boulevards all around there offer an all day all night show of amazing cars on the streets unlike anything you will ever see, anywhere....
Where are you staying? I personally would go for the San Fernando Valley area, near where Horst is, or the West side and Beverly Hills.
Forget Disneyland crap, there is much more to do. There are several W126 people around who would love to get together with you....
Los Angeles is probably ground zero, in the entire world, for lovers of good cars. The whole town caters to them, valet services, repair, sales and service places for them abound everywhere....
And the cuisine is remarkable, it's truly international, and can be first class too.
I am talking myself into coming back....lol...
I hope I can come down. I have the 560SEC basically completely done now, and a road trip sounds nice. I have been doing stuff here but would love to get away for this. We could have a Moderators executive session maybe, too.
With luck, we could go to some breakers yards, Horst is the expert, and has his finger on the pulse of what's going on, and I believe, some inside connections....if he is willing, this would be something NOT to be missed.
As Chadahar has said, I am doing the NorCal Mercedes Diesel Drive, the weekend before ( below San Francisco) and am a co organizer of that event, for all Mercedes, but mostly Diesel ones, and mostly cars from the 70s, and 80s.

Ross - are you going anywhere else in the US besides LA?
Jim B - How about a run down to Vegas and pick me up on the way to LA? I *should* be done with my Atlanta gig by then and it would be great to ride along. Gail too?? Spend a couple of days with us in Vegas, then we head south.

Goodness, Mike that sounds like something to think about!!
Wow I haven't seen you folks for years actually. You are wonderful folks.
Would you be taking the 560SEL with you to Los Angeles with Gail, if you came, or would you prefer to go in my coupe, if I could get down there?
Sounds like it might work. I like the idea of this.

I need to check with Gail on timing but I'd like to see you (and your ladyfriend??) show up a couple of days early, stay with us, then we either ride down in your Coupe or I bring the SEL.
This sounds like it's a great thing coming up-- unfortunately it's exactly when I'm going to be out of town. I especially like the scavenger hunt idea-- maybe next time everyone's around. Best to all, and have a great time!
Dave
