560 SEC AMG??
Hi,
I've got chance of a 1986 560 SEC badged with AMG, spoiler intergrated into the bootlid, front splitter and steering wheel, etc. Does the AMG also mean the engine is uprated as well?
And what is it worth? I'll try and get some photos if I can.
AMG cars were ordered up to what the customer wanted. You could have simply just a body kit, or just engine upgrades with no apparent AMG tuning.
AMG tuned the following items...
Engine(heads, displacement, cams, etc)
Exhaust(usually made by Sebring)
Suspension(shocks/springs)
bodykit
differential
interior wood, leather, and other unusual accessories.
So look the car over to see what its got... but just because it has a bodykit does not mean it has an AMG engine.

Welcome, to take advantage of all the forum features, please make sure to read the 'Welcome to the Forum' tutorial sticky on top of the W126 page, as well as the two DIY stickies.
It will show how to search the forum (3 words capitalized min.), and has a link to the Russian MB site where you can run a VIN#. The forum archive has a wealth of information.
Cheers

It makes it easier for members to offer advice. MB produced different, and region / Country specific versions of our cars.

I'd say it has the original AMG Styling bodykit on it. Rear boot/trunk has an intergrated spoiler. Front & rear splitters on the bumpers. AMG steering wheel and wood, wheels, etc.
Do you know how I can tell the difference between a standard differential and suspension system and an AMG one?
Are there no indentification plates?
Are there any tell-tale signs to look out for in the engine bay?

I am not the expert here, but on a AMG modified engine, the back of the camshafts towards the fire wall should be stamped AMG, you might need a little mirror.
Even AMG valve covers could have come from another car.
You might try to clean the shocks and springs, both should have the AMG logo if the suspension was done.

if its the silver car it looks to me to have an amg front spoiler and rear one too, the steering wheel is amg but i think its the older steering, in 1987 the amg steering wheel was different. the boot spoiler is not amg, the exhaust is not amg either. the side skirts are not there and the wheels being 18'' are not the correct ones for an 1987 car. also the badge is not the correct period badge. the springs should be white and the shocks black with if i remember correctly blue stickers on them saying amg. the engine looks stock to me but you really cannot tell if it's really fitted with amg cams unless its the quad cam engine which this one definitely is not. without a closer look of the vehicle i would say that its a standard 560 sec with a mixture of amg and other brand goodies on it. and in my opinion its overpriced unless it is a low mileage example. but it does state in the ad that the drivers seat is worn on the edge, and a low mileage w126 will not have any wear on the leather. good luck.
