Axel, thanks for the info--just have to find a decent radiator shop around here!
I would also like to give a special thanks to Blasphemous Mike for the information to help locate some important documentation on this vehicle as well as all those that helped contribute to this endeavor!
Remus! mmmmmmm--can't wait to get the engine in!
It's almost to nice to install it and get it dirty.Love to hear it

ok, quick question--this car came with country horns that appear to be stock one on each side behind the bumper---where is the switch for these or do all 4 horns sound off at the same time--i have never had these?
also, what would a 1 inch rubber air tube from the side of the engine be doing going to connect right after the Cats and linked to both?? weird EGR setup, vent, or what? usually this vent system goes to the air pump right? JONO?
maybe the original euro setup had this venting to the air???
Some vechicles had air injector lines going to the cats for quicker warmup... but no idea why it would be connected after the cats. Probably a kludge to get those non-OE parts to work.

The usual place for the Country/City horn switch is above the coin tray, but some cars had the switch on the AC panel.
The switch is between only the horns in behind the grille, or both sets at once.

I'll have to look, Hef does your new sec have these? same year 82 right? Will be posting the factory options the car has as soon as I am able to get some time--It is off to Virginia Sunday though -- around Harpers Ferry, too bad I can't take the SEC for a drive through Shenandoah!
I believe I will be working on pulling the engine out of the 500SEL all day saturday in an attempt to get it set up in the blue one before I leave!
hey you wont be far from here! gimmie a shout if you want to swing by. The 500 is at my shop but I have the 380 here still, its better then nothing
Mine is an 84, it's got the horn switch, second hole from the right above the climate unit.
I was thinking... On my euro wagon, it has the two sets of horns but no switch. I saw another euro wagon with the switch above the acc unit too and I suddenly realized- my wagon had a dealer installed A/C system, they put the compressor off/on switch in the slot where the horn on e was, so I'm betting I'll find mine behind that panel f I take it apart.
Did your car come with a/c or was it added? check behind that panel for an extra connector and you may find your switch.

that's the one! I have it on my dash in about the same location--- right now it looks like the sec is one of those ghetto sleds with the engine removed--- all jacked up--- looks like Monday I might clean out the engine bay and start the restoration on the wires-- anyone know of a flexible shielding I can buy in bulk rolls to replace the cracked engine harness wires??? (other than that tubing crap they sell at auto zone?)
