Question water temp sensor orientation

I am trying to change out the water temp sensor for the cis-e injection system on my 91 300se. The plug and sensor are both four pronged, but the plug seems to have a flat spot on its connector that would orientate it to the sensor prongs, and the neither the old sensor or the new one seem to have a mating flat spot. How does one know the oreintation to attach the plug to the sensor correctly? does the oreintation matter? it looks as though I could attach it any of 4 different orientations by spinning the plug 90 degs each attempt. thanks for your help

orientation doesnt matter. There are 2 temp senders, both the same, and 2 grounds. The pins for the senders and grounds alternate, so no matter how the plug is put on both temp circuits sense the right resistance. Check the manual, I think you will find this specific info, plus the resistances for the temp senders so you can make sure the new one is good.
