-1 degrees fahrenheit at 85mph

I love this website!! Story: Traveling back from Chicago the other night the heater stops working. We are 30 minutes from home (Milwaukee) and it's about -12F with wind chill. Needless to say we froze our butts off. After scouring this forum I decided to change the Mono Valve, thanks Philip Fox! As you can see in the picture mine was ripped. Now I have heat and not soon enough. This is my daily driver to work and we are expected to get 3-5 inches of snow in the next 12 hours. I love driving in snow!!

My question is: What is the lowest temperature reading you have seen in your Benz?

Later, wbwii

so far the lowest was -20F in Connecticut when my dad took her when his car was not working.
Damn, I wish he took a pic...

Dude! Way to not freeze to death.

One thing, though. You need to pick up a small paint brush, a phillips screwdriver, an index card, and some Testors 1127 orange, and get after those instrument needles. Go to Michael's, the paint/brush will set you back like $4. Next time, 'cause I really need a second coat, I'm going to use masking tape to cover the 'buttons' which hide the needle bases. If the light is right, I can just see the bases are yellow, not orange.

Plus, were you in top gear in the 85 MPH pic? I'm still trying to figure out why you're running @ 4,250 RPM. That's gotta net like, 9 MPG. Oh, wait, a 300...never mind.

Your question on temperature is exactly why I live in Las Vegas. I've seen maybe +30 in my SEL. I've been using the air conditioning for the last week or so.

Tell me again why you want to live someplace that cold?? :-)

I grew up in Chicago, and tell you what, no way could I ever live there again. The "winter blues" is the real thing up there. Summer is very, very nice, but the rest of the year isn't so good. I don't mind the winters here in Southwest Missouri, 30's-40's is normal most of the winter, with 50-60 degree temps thrown in a couple of times a month. I think that I even prefer winter over the not, muggy summer's we get here.

Does the extreme heat in the summer get to you out in Vegas?

Not since I put a ductless heat pump in the garage. Cooled in the summer, heat in the winter.

Actually, it gets all the way to HOT in the summer but I usually don't participate in summer until sundown - out of my air conditioned house into my air conditioned garage into my air conditioned car to my air conditioned office. Valet parking is free at the casinos so you only have a few yards to brave the heat before you're inside.

I've done winters in Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland, and Sault Ste. Marie, MI (which gets ALL the way to cold). I prefer putting up with 90 days of hot versus 90 days of gray and cold.

I'm surprised the monovalve failed in the closed position.

It ususally defaults to the open position, precisely to avoid the situation you found yourself in.

My SEC has never seen temperatures that cold.

I have though.......

It isn't cold until your spitball freezes before it hits the ground (tested and verified).

There is another version about taking a leak in extremely cold weather. Supposedly, the pee freezes before it hits the ground.....
I was never foolish enough to try and verify that urban legend.

Those engines were supposed to be tested by MB at incredibly low temperatures such as -40 degrees C or so. Good to know it worked OK.
