Radar detector Mount and power

i have not been iusing my RX65 pro in the benx cause i hate wires and open ashtrays.
i mount my radar w/suction cups above my rear view mirror.
today i figured i would source some power up there.
could not tap off any of the light or sunroof controls.
then i found the best. The power to the illuminated mirror in the visor, comes from the little clip that the visor snaps into.
2 wire phone line, red to right green to left and screwed it back in,
now have power with a wopping 7" of cord.
NICE

Great idea!

Without going out to check, is the power hot at all times or only with ignition on?

always hot, u have to turn the detector off, but so clever the way they deliver power to the mirror
i always thoutht it must have come thru the arm internally.

in my infiniti i routed the wire fron the fuse box up the a pillar then tucked into the trim above the window , and picked a fuse that is only hot w/ ignition on.

i would presume that it is next to Zero drain if left on.

Interesting, I pull off my sunroof control power, works great for either an Escort 8500 or Valentine V1. Detector turns on and off with the car

I think I'm using about 4-5 inches of cord, w/ 3 or less exposed

Hey Jono!

Not to bug you......but I just purchased a new cord (straight instead of coiled) for my detector and I want to do what you have done instead of using up my cigarette lighter and running the cord across the dash.

Have you had a chance to take a peek at your install? Could you snap a pic?
