All the SECs had aluminium hoods and trunk lids. Its the sedans where it varies, some have steel, others have aluminium.

Desert taupe, a kind of golden beige, is not that rare and you should find the color on your car's ID card on the crossmember in front of the radiator. If you need a sample, just get a can of touch-up paint from your local MB dealer.

I'm not a paint expert, but I've been told that the MB paint process on our cars have 7 layers and an expert can buff off the oxydized top layer and bring "new" paint back.

In your case you'd have to remove the clear coat, buff up the base paint and then re-spray the clear. Not many paint shops that want to do that sort of work.
