What's an AMG 1000SEL engine worth???

I did some searching, and I was wondering... were there different varieties of engines? Gen I specific AMG body stuff does not work for Gen II cars, right?

Assuming the engine is a 32V 5.0 M117, what kind of horsepower should it deliver? Can any of the suspension stuff be used for a Gen II W126, namely a 1991 560SEL?

A 32V 5.0 M117 is 340 bhp.

Since it's the early generation, you could use the springs and shocks on the 560, since this 32V engine won't have the SLS pump...so you can run conventional shocks at the rear.

You'll have more work to do on the engine though...only wiring really, you will need to transfer the wiring harness and modules from the 32C car to the 560, snice the 5.0 32V is CIS and the 560 is CIS-KE.

Note the 32V 5.0 block is materially heavier than the 560 block, so i'd use the springs from the 32V car rather than stock 560 springs.

Well, a big part of the equation is what shape is the engine in? How many miles? Has the valve lash ever been adjusted?

You can either get lucky and find one in great shape or you could end up having to tear the whole think apart as Hans has done, in which case plan on spending a fair bit of $$$ getting everything in order/taking preventative measures to be sure things don't go sour in the future.

As a POR, there is a fellow in Canada who will make you a 6L 32V replica of the AMG bits for 45K last I heard.

What about replacement parts... I mean, I can't trot on over to the dealership for some gaskets. And if the valves ever need replacement, then I'm in the S**T, right? I'll see if I can get some pictures of this beast, though I'll probably be let down as usual...

Well, 5L head gaskets are easy..they're just the stock gasket so no worries.. The intermeadiate gaskets/valve cover gaskets we are re-producing. I'm also producing the spark plug hole seals which are NLA Everywhere.

Valve are do-able w/o terribly much fuss. The ugly is cams, one of the sections of the head etc..

If you don't pull the trigger I'd be interested in having a look should you be inclined to move the info my way. Or, if you do go for it and need something you know where to find me!

^^^^ No problem at all... I'll see if I can get some pictures together... anything I should get some detail on??? I'm not sure if all the paperwork for this car is in hand, so I'll see about that. I understand AMGs should come with their paperwork... what am I looking for?

Currently, I'm wondering about M119 heads on a M117 block... seems like an easier engine mod than having to swap engines... but again, I'd differ to you. I can get a sweet 500SEL Body that needs a motor... so maybe I can put a complete beast together... what about tranny for an AMG engine (while I've got you on the line...)

BTW, I have no idea is this is a 32Valve or not yet... you still interested if it's a motor with lower HP?

Well, if it's modded I'd still be interested..Hell, I'll look @ just about anything!

We can build a transmission to a full on 6L 32V w/o issue so no worries!

Not all AMG's have paperwork, in fact, most don't @ this point.

M119 heads on the 117 is a Major undertaking :-P
