camshaft, camshaft bearings, and rocker arms

Hey guys,

My car has a problem, I noticed both my camshafts were worn down and that I should probably replace the towers(camshaft bearings) and rocker arms at the same time. Car currently makes the ticking sound.
I then contacted the nearest mercedes mechanic and over the phone he told me that this happens because something else is wrong with the car. He said if you fix it the same will probably happen again. Is that true? Has anybody else had this situation before.

Well, they have worn from lack of oil pressure or severe lack of oil changes.

How many miles on your car?

Jonathan

These older Benzes need more regular oil changes then the contemporary models. Every 3K-4K should be the norm. They're known to eat camshafts!

Now if you've had the car long term and this has not been the case, there is a strong likelyhood that it's due the lack of servicing.

If you purchased the car recently, then the service records (if any) that you received with the car will explain all.

Either way, it is by no means the end of the world: you still have a 560!

I have about 183K miles on the beast. Jonathan my timing chain rails tensioner are in superb shape. So do you think that I should replace the items or go with a better used engine installed with labor for $3500
Thanks

I'm not much of a used engine fan unless you get the full books and records from the car it came from.. You're just buying into an unknown qty. w/o testing/inspecting etc, etc.

With that in mind I'd prob. replace the cams if everything else was/is in good shape.. How was your hot oil pressure @ idle?

Would be a great time to swap to hot cams/headers;-)
