Two days and no reply - tension mounts...
Who will be first to say 'grease the monkey!' - or 'just poke it in dry'?.

the only lubrication required is on the internal mechanism of the check strap.

The retaining pin doesn't need any lube...no point.

No need for lube but double check that your check strap is genuine.. The aftermarket bits do Not hold up well @ all.

Thank you all... It looked like the previous mechanic (who knows, but it wasn't me) used some sort of grease on that pin... I cleaned it, then re installed. The door check strap was bought from the dealer... I'm in agreement... the aftermarket stuff might look nice price-wise, but it doesn't last.

Once agian you have been found wanting. If you really had the means to command a land yacht such as a W126 for more than just a wee-go-around you would know that the little pin SHOULD have SOME lube and if that little pin does not have some lube, it will rust and will be an unplesant eye sore each and every time you open the door.

Talbir you really are falling apart this week... Have you been drinking?

It seems to me that I read somewhere to use a drop of motor oil to lube the inside rail of the stap guide as a maintenance item.

There sure seem to be a lot of people that never got out of high school visiting here and getting banned, sort of takes away from some decient threads on keeping these old cars going. What a shame maybe someday they'll grow up or die.

The shame is - that guy really does seem to know a lot about and seemingly loves W126's, but he has a real attitude problem against Benzworld and anyone else who actually knows how Merc. innards work.
For someone so ANTI he still can't keep away from the place.
