What day of the week is best?
I think for this first time, we'll just get together for drinks at Rythym's of the Night in Manville, NJ. But SOON. Then, while there, I'd like to talk to you guys and the Owner about organizing a Mercedes car show, Maybe a "1st Annual Benzworld Auto Show (NJ chapter)"? in June or July maybe with a Flea market, venders, live band, and raffles. I might even be able to get some sponsors like Millenium Mercedes Benz in Bridgewater. I'm usually pretty good at this sort of thing. I will need some ideas on classes for the show, so, start thinking now. then we can talk more when we get together.
Hey, you guys wouldn't happen to have a Benzworld banner I could borrow would ya?
Thoughts?
Anyone interested in helping me organize the car show, you can give me a call

Well. today I talked to Millenium mercedes benz. They might be willing to sponsor some prizes provided we give them a spot in the lot for a display of like 6 cars.
Then I talked to the owner of Rythym's of the night. He's all for it. Exicted even. My grandparents used to own the bulding before him when it was the yellow rose and he remembered me right away.
I have a judge team lined up already who have judged at some other classic shows.
The parking lot has room for 110 cars. part of which must be used for spectator parking so I think we should limit show registration to 50 cars.
Now. the question is, what classes should we allow?
My vote is up to 1989. pre-50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's MB for the show.
and if so, we should post this in the forums here at benzworld other than just W126.
Thoughts?
This is sounding pretty cool. If you need help, let me know.
Maybe divide by class, like W126, W124, W107, etc? Then we can post in each forum without worrying about a split for pre-1990 W126 and post. You know?
At previous hows/GTG's, sometimes local dealer would donate a bay or two, and a mechanic or two, and do free tech inspections and point out common problems and maintenance items. Gives tech a chance to show his stuff, and can drum up business for the dealership.
So maybe Sat morning tech 8-10, then show11-3, then drinks then dinner? Also a fun thing to do is group caravan to local destination.
But I don't have too much free time, so not looking to add to your burden if you are willing to coordinate. I am sure we'll have fun with whatever the events are.
they don't have to be showroom quality to enter or be stock of course. we are working out some kind of a modded class as well. (Maybe)
I posted a link to this thread on some of the other forums here in Benzworld. Lets see the response.
If we don't get a huge response, we revert back to our first plan which is a GTG for drinks, dinner, and talk shop.
Think we should tell MBUSA? or keep it to ourselves? Thoughts?

What's GTG? lol
But otherwise, I'm interested. I live in Northern Bergen County and will enter my W124 E320 if it's a contest we're talking about.
I live like 2 minutes from MBUSA HQ in Montvale (literally a 2 minute drive) and know one or two contacts. I can help you with that if you want.
Is there an age limit too? I turn 17 in April.
I think you should do all cars starting with the last of the W124s, W201s, W126s and older. The R129s, W202s, and W140s are what sort of signified the change over of modernity in terms of Mercedes-Benz. Because if you look at the 94-95 W124s, they were the last true Mercedes-Benz and you can sort of call them "modern classics," they're not too new or complicated like the R129 and W140 to be modern, yet they're not to old to entirely be classic. So that immediately clues that you can't do it by year, like you said all cars pre-1989 because there will be alot of W126s, W124s and W201s that you'll be missing out on and won't be able to qualify.
No one else?
Well with this little response, it looks like it's going to be just a "get together" then. It was worth a shot. maybe next year.
Ok so. I'll see what the hours of operation are at Rythyms and we'll start working on a date. also, maybe we can get together once a month during the summer? that way we can talk about stuff and look at each other's progress on our rides. That might be fun eh? Then if we get more people we can eventually have a little car show or something. or expand it to german cars, and if that's not enough, european cars. We'll find the right mix eventually.

well, i know two other mercedes enthusiast forums where i'm a member. Is this considered a benzworld gtg or a mercedes gtg ? because i'm pretty sure if the members there were invited we could have a bigger gathering. Let me know and I post a link for this gtg there
