You can use a metal polish product like Autosol (if you guys have it up your way) on that aircleaner.
A couple of days after i got my car i decided to see how it would clean up, and was shocked at the finish i got, now it looks much like DarkoneSK. That saves me a few bucks getting it professionally polished as i have come up with the same result.

absolutely. Saw your dad last week. he told you about it right?
also, to answer the air cleaner question, Used a drill with buffing compunds. GOnna make it look even better this year. i just got a professional buffing wheel. So i'm redoing all of it again.
All the polishing work is documented here. just read through the whole thread. the polishing work is on pages 1-6 if memory serves.
Polishing the Air cleaner/saving decals questions. redux
DarkOneSK, I reviewed the Air cleaner part of this thread, and came away with renewed respect for the work that has gone into the project. WOW!!
The job on your car, all of it, throughout, makes the reason it is a trophy winner VERY clear. It is awesome.
I have a question for you though. I am interested in truly cleaning up my 560SEC air
cleaner cover.
Over the dozen years it has been cleaned up now and then with nev R dull impregnated wadding, so it looks nice, pretty good. But I want to be even better.
You linkes to the Caswell polishing kit, on page 2 of this thread and it says, the polishers can work off an electric drill.
Well actually have two, got them from my father, who was an IBM engineer,
One of them is a Black and Decker drill; it is a portable, 7.2V, 350/700 rpm and the other is a SKIL, 3/8" electric drill, adjustable 1/5 hp model 569 drill.
He has lots of bits for it too.
Would you suggest these as compatible with that kit to work?
How long would it take to clean and polish it up, it is not dirty or pitted.
Also, the air cleaner cover still has the factory decals on it, and the AMG sticker on it, and I want to clean AROUND these and not destroy them in the process, can you polish around them or something?
Also, did you take the air cleaner off the car, or leave it on there, when you polished it, to get the best result? (sorry for the dumb questions, but it might be dumber not to ask them!!)
Thanks for any response. My car will never be as clean as yours, but I want it at least better than it is now, and hopefully closer to as good looking as yours.

ok. where do i start.
Yes. your drills are fine. the BEST job you can get is with a 3hp+ stationary buffer wheel though. You can buy those at caswell as well.
Yes I took it off the car before i polished it.
It will take you about 8 hours for a quality job. and it is VERY Dirty Work. Make sure you wear clothes you dont care if you ruin. They will be permanently stained from the grime. Yes i know your air cleaner is clean, but it wont matter. The grime comes from polishing aluminum. it cant be avoided.
Yes you can polish around the stickers. A dremel tool with a buffer head works nicely for that.
Sorry i disapeared again. was in the hospital. Exploded appendix. Still hurting but I'll be OK. It's gonna put a damper on my spring clean though for a while.
Oh by the way, does anyone have an outside temp sensor? mine fell off and ground itself to bare wire on the road. You know, the one that attaches to the license plate? if not. keep your eyes open in the Jy's for me please.
