Got a little tear in the drivers seat cover and was looking into ordering new covers but found two offered- MB-Tex and leather. I'm not sure what I have or even what the difference looks like. I know Performance Products offers leather and MB-Tex but they do not say how to tell the difference. Simple question I know but I'll claim stupidity in that I don't know what my own car has. Anyone tell me identify mine?
Q. How can I tell if I have leather or vinyl seat upholstery? A. It can be very difficult to tell the difference between leather and vinyl by looking at the face of the material. Manufacturers intentionally make vinyls to look like leather. By turning the material over however the difference is obvious. Vinyl will have a knitted back with a regular pattern, while leather will appear to be suede.
If your 300SE is a US spec model... then its leather. I've only seen and heard of two offerings in the 300 US spec.. one is leather and the other is velour. MB tex were found on non-NA cars mostly, and most of the time they had velour, followed by leather... and last the MB tex(not a popular option in the S class).
... and last the MB tex(not a popular option in the S class).
....but a very popular option among European taxi drivers and W107 owners.....

Well thanks folks, what I have is obviously leather and as 500MPL says it is pricey. Maybe that little tear can wait a while. Called Performance Products anyway and the deal is if you buy one seat you do not get the cover for the armrest but if you get both seats they throw the armrest cover and both headrest covers in for free. What a deal eh?$1000 for four covers...
Am I the only one who thinks that Russian website is just a collection for VINs? I mean, the way high end cars are stolen these days is basketball they are specifically ordered, typically by the Russian mafia or the local goons of former USSR states, and then those cars are flatbedded, the vin plates are changed, and they ship them out. How do they order specific cars and find them so readily? VIN databases.
