Over the past several weeks I have noticed a problem when I lock my car. The central lock system will not always lock all doors. The system will eventually work but it may take several attempts to lock/unlock. Other times the system works perfectly.
What generally happens is the drivers door will lock but not activate the rest to lock. This happens with both front doors. After several attempts I hear the vacuum system work all the doors to lock.
Does anyone know of a potential problem that may be the culprit to this dilemma?
Sounds like a vaccuum leak in the central locking system. My old 300sel a similiar issue... where it would lock all doors but would have a hard time unlocking the rear doors.
is the vacpump in the boot supposed to be audible? my central locking doesn't work either. it seems to me that MB switched to using a stand alone electric vaccum pump as apposed to a system dependant upon engine vaccum, right? if so, my pump is much noisier when unlocking. just sits there buzzing for appx 30 seconds.

I had a set of keys (master and valet) re-cut by MB, using my VIN number. Of course the valet key does not fit the trunk lock (that's the point), but if you use the valet key on the door, the powerlock also unlocks the trunk (which is not the point). Any ideas?
I believe if you lock the trunk manually with the master key(turn it the opposite direction of unlocking, leave in that postion, and pull out the key) it will not open with the power locks.
The pump assembly will stop itself after 25 - 150 seconds(they're calling this the 'safety switching time') whether or not the cycle completes. The best course would be to disconnect the yellow vacuum line at the pump and test both sides there.
