Wow what a photographer. Unfortunatly its a whole different story behind it. Not to ofend anyone but Kim Jung Ill is a brain washer. Its the number one country in tthe world that is isolated. Im surprise the let you bring in a camera. Not to go on and on.
So hey how is Thailand, Sawandy
I went there twice. The first time with my former girl friend. At that time Kim Il Sung was still alive. We spent about 2 weeks touring the country but most of that time was in Pyongyang. We always had a guide with us. The second time I also went with my former girl friend and I also brought my children (daughter, Annie, was the photogrpher....she likes to shoot in B&W). The second trip was after Kim Il Sung had died. It certainly is a strange country. The only cars we saw were government cars....there were no bikes....but, public transportation was good (the underground looked like the one in Moscow).
Thailand is wonderful. I've been living in Bangkok for seven years. We live next door to the Shangri-La hotel so the dining is great. Last night we ate at "Next2", the hotel's buffet restaurant.
Back to the car: it would be a shame if you couldn't track down the ownership history of the car -- if it did indeed belong to KJI, it would be a piece of history, and having documentation to prove it could affect the value of the car. I'm sure you have no plans of selling it at the moment, but it probably would fetch a much higher price, especially on EBay, if you could prove that this car used to belong to an evil dictator...
And even if you don't sell it, wouldn't it be kinda cool to know for sure?
I would definitely talk to your local MB dealership, and maybe ask your local government/DMV for suggestions. Do you guys have a N Korean consulate in Canada?
I plan on never selling this car, a white on black 560SEC (89 - 91) is exactly what I have always wanted.
We do not have a DPRK embassy/consulate here in Canada so follow up via that route is quite impossible. Unless anyone has Kim Jong-Il's home phone number?
I will check with my local Mercedes-Benz dealership, but as the car is a foreign import I am not too sure how willing/able they will be to help.
It would be good to know who originally owned the car, as it had to be someone rather high up in the DPRK hierarchy!
I'll have some pics up tomorrow evening at the latest.

If you can get the country that the car was delivered to then MB should have filed away somewhere in traditional German fashion the origional docs. MB Germany would be the place to contact but the local dealer would be a first port of call. If you can establish that the car was even 100% from NK then it's quite some thing, if it was owned by Kim himself then WOW, as for imports turning up in Canada thats not impossible, there is a car floating around our local version of Ebay here that is from China but it is right hand drive, so God only knows the story of that 126, we also have the 280SEL from the Russian embassy in the 80's for sale and my Dad knows a guy that has one from the German embassy that I must get pics of one day,
Vehicle: 1985 500SEC, 1991 190E 2.6, bought 07/08 with 50k original miles.

Hi Corkscrew. If you want to start a Revolution in the DPRK, just try to put up some billboards with pictures of the same dishes.
According to the VIN decode above, the car was originally sold through "Dealer Korea people's republic (North Korea) (848)" So I can only assume that it was originally delivered to someone in the DPRK and being a white on black 560SEC, someone special!
I will be posting pics tonight and contacting my local MB dealer in the next few days.
Check the engine bay for the reprocessed nuclear fuels option. With all the embargos on N. Korea they only way KJI (aka 'Il Kim) could affordably power the car is with reprocessed fuel.
Sounds like a great looking car! Maybe your daughter could take the photos, too.
