Best W126 Service Manual/Bible?

Hi all,

I'm new here, this is my first topic/post. I'm going to be buying a W126 as my first car at 19 years old within the next 30 days, roughly. I've actually decided on that particular model from everything I read, even though I could get a W140 if I really wanted to. I also really love the distinct lines and body style of the W126, it looks a lot more classy, and sleek, as opposed to the more rounded W140.

I've always been a huge Chrysler/Mopar fan, and since the DaimlerChrysler merger, I've paid a lot more attention to Mercedes. I was mostly a fan of all the classics, which are excellent automobiles, I'm glad that they merged and that Chrysler is producing good cars again (Although, I cannot afford one yet) I decided against getting a Chrysler product from the 80's or 90's because I figured they wouldn't be nearly as reliable, or as nice as a Mercedes, so here I am.

Anyway, my question here is, what's the BEST DIY repair book available for the car? I'm basically looking for a W126 BIBLE, and would like to know everyone's opinion on what the best manual is, and by what publisher etc.

Thanks for the help!

Matt

Welcome to the forum. To include your car mod. and location makes it easier for members to offer advise. If you don't have one yet, Mercedes Benz at www.mbusa.com has the official 2 CD service manual for $ 20. Outside the US the thing costs up to five or six times that. Check out MBL87560SEC's post in the DIY thread above. It has the link/information how to order, and how/with which free Steve Nervig index to download to HD. You can also type your question into the 'search this forum' box on the top right. It will get you all archived post re. your problem. You might try the Russian MB site. Don't put in a mod. or vin, click on cars and scroll down, until you get to yours. Good luck. http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb.asp

The online manual mbbraingears seems to be back for now: http://mb.braingears.com/126_DISC2/program/matrix.htm Good luck

G'day Matt, If you can, scan Ebay for the original Mercedes workshop manuals. I just picked up one today, with a few other other MB guides and manuals, on Ebay Australia for AUS$122.50. It covers the M103 engine 300SE [my R107 SL], M116 engine 420SEL [my W126] and the M117 engine 560SL, 560SEL and 560SEC. These manuals come up from time to time and cover comprehensive electrical and mechanical diagnosis steps. As I plan on keeping my MB cars the price is negligible.
