How much engine oil to bring oil level from min to max?

I feel like it's about a quart, am I right? I checked my oil level today. It's 2 mm above the min mark. I recall that I added 8 qts on last oil change. But manual says 8 L. So I need add some to bring the level to the max mark. I added a half quart, found it is in the middle between the marks. Is it possible that my engine needs 9 qts, other than 8.5 qts as listed in the manual?

2 quarts from min to max. 560's do Not like to be run near the min..especially if you run them/corner them hard....starves the passenger cam of oil.

2 quarts? no kidding? this is a surprise to me. So I need a total of 10 quarts to fill it? I cannot believe this since manual says 8.5 quarts. I run my car on a pair of ramps so the head is higher than the tail when draining the old oil. This might bring a half quart more oil out. So 9 quarts might be reasonable. But 10 qts ....

Are you sure you are checking it right? How long do you let the car sit before checking the oil? Is the ground absol. level? I typically add a little over 2 gallons when doing my oil changes.

Ideally you want to check your oil first thing in the morning w/ it cool on a level surface.

Also, you might want to check that your dipstick tube is fully seated.

Manual says:

-- Check oil level with engine at operating temperature approx. 2 minutes after stopping engine.

Yes, I tried to find a level ground to check.

Aparantly, and don't take my word for it, most MBs prefer to run about halfway netween min and max. We have a 380 which is rather thirsty on oil and the lower we keep the level, the lower the oil use.
My old 500 also liked to run the halfway level.

Older cars will like a lower oil level...that's the case w/ Any engine.

2 minutes is not enough...I wait @ least 10 while before checking. You Really want to let All the oil drain back into the pan, and with age the return ports/lines etc can get a bit clogged thus making it take longer to drain back.

I get my most consistant readings first thing in the morning.. I still do checks on the road but feel the best about the level after it as sat overnight.

Your manual should also tell you that it is indeed 2 quarts b/w the min and max.

And if you are putting almost 10 quarts of oil in your car something is wrong.

You are right. I just checked the online manual tech. data. The amount of oil to bring the level from min to max is actually 2L which is aprox. 2.1 qts. The manual says:

During oil and filter change approx. l : 8.0
marks on dipstick max./min. approx. l : 7.5/5.5

How come filling capacity 8.0L and the max. only show 7.5L ? Do we suppose to fill above the max. line?

I gotta monitor my oil level in the following days and see what's happenning. It might eat too much oil. But I did not see any dropping on the ground, nor blue smoke from the tail. I did add 8 qts originally. It has been about 1000 miles when I found that the oil level was just a bit above the min level. OMG...I'm confused....

No, do not fill above the max line..that will cause excessive crank windage/stress no the bottom end.

I still think you should check your dip stick tube to be sure it's fully seated. It would not be the first one I've seen sitting proud.

yes, I double checked the dipstick. It was fully seated before I pull it out to read the level. I even cross checked the manual and just make sure it is the right part for my car. Can you explain what manual says about the capacity? I mean fill 8L but the max line is about 7.5L, how come?
