Insulation under the hood

The insulation under the hood of my 86 300SE is gone in the area of the radiator.

I want to go ahead and take the old one out and replace with a new one.

Any recomendations as to which new Insulation is best? (Dealer or other...)

Any advice on how to go about fixing this?

Does the pad crumble in your hands?
Is it still plyable?

Just another defect on all the W-126's. Both mine are shot....

Maybe Jonathan with give us a break on a GROUP BUY.....

It is starting to crumble. Enough to make me not want to touch it until I am ready to replace.

Order a new hood pad from Autohauz AZ. You can pick up the adhesive from a auto parts store in your area. I think it is 3M 8090. I might be wrong. If you do a search I am sure you will find it. It is an easy job. Just expect the old hood pad to be pretty nasty. Took me about an hour or so- a lot of scraping to get the old hood pad removed. The new pad looks much better. I did not drive the car for 24 hours afterwards. I believe the adhesive can said it takes that long for it to fully cure.

Send a message via Yahoo to jdc1244a
Try to get the ‘waffle pattern’ pad, which is OEM. Some of the after market pads not last very long.
