Picture it, your driving down the road quite peacefully, when suddenly.. a leaf gets stuck on the hood star and you can't shake it off no matter how hard you try. This seems to happen to me about once a week and it drives me insane when it happens.

For me it’s small lizards and tree frogs on my car – that’s revolting enough – but I have a phobia that they will crawl into the air system, die, and stink.
I remember one day driving the 126 down the freeway and a big plastic bag was flying across the road....and of course it was like my hood star was a magnet and the bag wrapped itself around it. [:)]

Sometimes if your on side streets hitting the brakes hard can shake the pesky bugers loose. Unfortuantly, the usual solution is to stop, get out, and crush the leaf in a mad rage.[}:)]
I rather Enjoyed driving this evening only to watch the truck two cars in front of me lose a cardboard box which gracefully made it's way to Right in front of my car..:-/ W/ cars to my side and crawling up my ... (as they so often do in Atl) I didn't have much choice but to hit it.
Fortunately it proved to be empty and didn’t even scratch my front bumper:)
My cousin used to have a Toyota corolla....one day he was driving down the freeway when a plastic milk crate fell off of a truck. The crate managed to get stuck underneath the car, he had to pull over and jack the car up in order to remove it.
are the turds who leave unsecured cargo in their truck bed
hmmm....i've had quite a few things fall out of trucks directly in front of me in quite a few instances...which is why i never let myself get boxed in behind a truck.
a.)bag of cement (dodged)
b.)box of tools (dodged)
c.)wooden pallete (mostly dodged, fragments bounced off another car and got me)
1/4 load of gravel (didn't see it, slid and broke a rim)
d.)box of hardware (dodged)
e.)2 aluminum 30 ft ladders (dodged)
f.)pvc pipe (dodged)
g.)axle from UNDERNEATH a truck falling out going about 60 mph, with one wheel still attached! (dodged) the other wheel got loose and nearly totalled a honda. luckily the axle spun and skidded down the fwy but didn't hit anyone, would have killed or maimed them. what amazed me was a bmw 3 series driver's technique, he was on my left when the axle got loose, he dodged left, i dodged right, and the axle bounced and landed on his LEFT so he swerved and dodged the axle AGAIN all this happening in the space of 20 seconds...absolutely amazing reaction speed! the truck skidded and caught fire, probably crushed it's gas tank and the sparks ignited the leaking fuel.
what pisses me off the most is the turds that didn't secure their cargo properly, are probably more pissed that they lost their cargo, than worried they might hurt someone. cops should permanently suspend their license, as the bastards have no respect for the roads and the people around them.
BTW, this was all experienced on the fwys and roads around LA...it's like a warzone out here!

Might be of little comfort but up here in WA it's now the law that you can be charged with a crime, probably the equivalent of vehicular assult/murder, if an unsecured cargo seriously hurts or kills someone. About time, really how long does it take to tie things down?

It really is amazing how little holds down the loads of pickups and flatbeds sometimes. Contractors get laxidaisical when nothing happens and think things are fine - a few bungee cords, stuff in the bed but not tied down...
A few days ago I was stopped at a red light. In my rear view I saw a flatbed with roof rack slowing behind me - just a little too fast. As if in slow motion dozens of 20' PVC pipes starting spilling over his cab into the roadway. I looked quick and ran the red light.
